Healthy Theater Snack Options for Toddlers

When people bring their children to shows, it is often a dilemma on what to feed them when they get hungry. Often the theater offerings at concessions are not only very expensive, but not very healthy.

Parents want to be able to carry foods the kids will eat, but not be terribly messy nor require too much special handling. Bringing fruit is a great idea, but some require refrigeration or other special storage. If able to, plums, peaches or nectarines can be taken in a purse for consumption as a great snack, or possibly even a banana. Sometimes fruit can get messier than expected. Finding some good healthy snacks for toddlers, especially, one must be careful of choking hazards, like small grapes and nuts. If your toddler is able to eat these foods easily, they are a healthy snacking option.

Try purchasing a healthy version of a cereal bar. They are easy to carry and soft and can be eaten whole or pieces picked off. Check labels to get the lowest sugar levels and higher fiber content. Most varieties have flavors kids would like such as strawberry, apple or blueberry.

Other good snack foods would be a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread. Again, it won’t require refrigeration and is relatively easy to eat. Make sure you have some bottled water, milk, or 100 juice to help wash it down. Always carry disposable hand cleaning wipes in your purse or pocket. With toddlers, you will always need them for quick cleanups.

Stay away from fruit rolls as they are mostly sugar. Prepackaged snack crackers with peanut butter or cheese are an option or crackers. Find one without trans fat and low in saturated fat. Things can get messy, but easy to eat and somewhat healthy is the key here.
